Shopping, dancing, eating, and
doing good what more could you ask for in a night
out?!
SalvAide, an Ottawa-based organization
which is in its 24th year, is preparing for its 11th Annual Fundraising
Dinner and Auction. The fundraiser will take place on Thursday, October
30th, 2008 from 5:30 p.m. onwards, in Ottawa. The event is eagerly awaited
by SalvAide’s past guests and supporters, who enjoy the fantastic food,
the great atmosphere and entertainment, and the live and silent
auctions, which, this year, are set to contain over 150 varied and
high quality items. In 2007, the 10th Annual Fundraising Dinner and
Auction raised $20,000, which provided crucial support for
SalvAide’s community development projects in El Salvador. At this
year’s event, the organization hopes to raise $22,000.
To buy your
ticket, please telephone our office at (613) 233-6215 or email:

The delectable meal,
which is included in the ticket price, is a multicultural feast, which
also provides some authentic Salvadoran flavours. The crowd will be
entertained by the band Colores Andinos, who blend “Native-Andean
rhythms and contemporary influences such as salsa, cumbia, bossa-nova
and jazz” and captivate audiences with their “energy, talent and art,
playing more than 20 wind, string and percussion instruments from modern
and traditional Latin American heritage”.
The live and silent auctions
include: fine art, crafts from as far afield as Africa,
Colombia and El Salvador, household items, clothing, jewelry, tools,
gift certificates for spas, attractions, travel, including accommodation
at hotels and B&Bs, and certificates for many local restaurants and
culinary shops. For a full list, which will be updated as more auction items
are donated, visit the SalvAide Website, and follow the link to the
Auction 2008 web page.
“What makes this event so special is that its always such a fabulous
party with great auction items to bid on, but the best part is that by
attending, you really are helping people who need your support” says
regular SalvAide Dinner and Auction attendee Sara Guild. Sometimes with
all the excitement of the evening, this fact is easy to forget, but
while many guests relax and enjoy the festivities, SalvAide’s
Fundraising Committee never loses sight of the fact that the money
raised helps communities in great
need.
Often receiving partial funding from
the Canadian International Development Agency, SalvAide’s projects in El
Salvador, such as its School of Youth Leaders or its Women’s Microcredit
Programs, improve health, financial and nutritional security and foster
participation and democracy at a community level. Closer to home,
Canadians of all ages benefit from SalvAide's Delegation, Internship and
Twin Community programs which give them the chance to participate in
learning experiences and cultural exchanges. To find out more about
SalvAide’s programs, visit www.salvaide.ca.
